If you had to explain a westerner about the scent of Indian suburbs on a humid, summer day, how would you explain? The answer might be complicated. This is because you may start your day with a normal bergamot based deodorant. This would be followed by an unpleasant experience because you're walking amongst a crowd and not everyone has hygiene. After walking for two minutes, you might find the scents of incense from temples. Walk more and you'd find scents of food, fruits and so on. There is no single answer. However, if we had to create an answer, I believe, this is it.
The Indian Summers is a concept based fragrance by the brand of Kannauj Perfumery (which is partly based in Kannauj, UP and Ahmedabad Gujarat) which has shown some tremendous craftsmanship in recent years.
Now, I didn't know what to say at first when I sprayed it on me. All I can say is, I'm so used to smell blue-green freshies, I never expected a purely wooden freshy with severe quantities of frankincense.
The notes are Geranium, Cedarwood, Herbal, Patchouli, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cypress, Grassy, Leather, Frankincense, Bergamot, Lemon, Ambrette, Oakmoss, Treemoss and Eucalyptus, in no particular order. However, I did get a faint hint of vetiver in it as well. A minty variant of vetiver, to be precise. It has a 40% extrait concentration which blasts a whole lot of sillage and makes it even more interesting.
Needless to say, the notes do make it a bit heavier than the average blue freshies. However, it does stick to its name and theme. There is a mish-mash of various fougere scents and scents of incense sticks found in just about any temple. All thanks to the presence of cinnamon, nutmeg and frankincense. The minty essence in this fragrance is what holds is together as one of the most atypical summer scent to look out for.
The Indian Summers by Kannauj Perfumery is a reminiscent of beautiful things around us amidst the torture of the humid season.
P. S. Oh, and I loved the presentation. Makes me feel I've bought a piece of jewelery or something.
